Internship for Milan Conservatory students
Students enrolled in Academic Diploma I and II level courses (three-year and two-year) may carry out a library internship, recognised in the “Student's choice of educational activity” provided for in the study plan (min. 40 hours 2 credits).
Prerequisites
- having attended the course Tools and Methods of Bibliographic Research
or
- having participated in the workshop From paper to digital. Research and transcription of music sources from the Milan Conservatory Library or the laboratory Writing theses and dissertations in the Conservatory
or
- 10 hours of training in the Library to take place before the start of the placement
Required skills
- Basic computer skills
- Library catalogue browsing skills
- Aptitude for teamwork, interpersonal skills and operational availability
Objectives
- Knowledge of all the activities of front office and of back office that characterise the library service
- Knowledge of resources and repertoires for bibliographic research in music and musicology
Activities
The proposed activities may vary in relation to the many different needs of the Library and can be traced back to the following areas:
- Reference: user information, bibliographic search guidance
- Distribution service: acceptance of consultation requests; physical retrieval and reordering of stock resources; reconnaissance and control of bibliographic resources
- Loan Service: Recording of Loan Transactions
- Searching and checking bibliographic records in the Library's print and digital catalogues; updating bibliographic records already in the National Library Service catalogue by means of an online cataloguing procedure
- Activities related to the administrative management of bibliographic resources
- Review and reorganisation of past collections and funds
- Digitisation of bibliographical resources; digitisation of paper catalogues still existing in the library and indexing activities; reclamation and implementation of the Digital Library
- Archival Document Searches

Venue and Hours
The internship takes place on the premises of the Conservatory Library; activities take place during the Library's public opening hours.
Internships for students at universities or other conservatories
The Conservatoire Library offers the possibility of a curricular internship for degree courses that provide for it. In order to activate an internship, an agreement must be signed between your university and the Conservatory. For information write to: biblioteca@consmilano.it
It is also possible to activate a postgraduate traineeship within 6 months of graduation. The internship must be continuous and involve a commitment of 18 hours a week (4.5 hours for 4 days a week) for 6 months, which may be extended by a further 6 months.
