The following documents must be attached to the form:

The general criteria for access to “part-time” follow:
1. General Criteria
By 15 September the student may submit the application to obtain the status of “part-time student” in teaching activities for the academic year in question.
The part-time student undertakes to acquire no less than 12 and no more than 42 academic credits for each year by the third examination session of each year, in twice the normal duration of the course of study. At the same time, the student obtains extended student status and partial exemption from paying academic fees for the academic years concerned.
Any student enrolled or enrolled in the normal years of the first or second level diploma course who, for work, family or personal reasons, considers that he/she is not in a position to advance in his/her academic career within the normal timeframe laid down in the Conservatoire's didactic regulations, may request the status of “part-time student”.
The status of “part-time student” allows the acquisition of the credits of an academic year in two years; however, the attendance of the subjects chosen and divided between the partial years must be completed within the same year, with the exception of the attendance of the discipline that gives the course its name and that can be taken at 50% in one year and 50% in the following year (e.g. in the case of the three-year course of vl. or pf., performance practice and repertoire, 32 h : 2 = 16 h).
The academic credits acquired upon passing the relevant profit examinations will be fully counted in the year provided for in one's study plan.
The part-time student
- must pay the regional tax for the right to university study in full each year;
- must pay, for each year in which it qualifies, the reduced academic contribution as indicated in the section “Fees and academic contributions”.
- enjoys the same exemptions as for full-time students.
2. Repeatability of the application and limitations
The status of “part-time student” is valid for the academic year in which it is requested and the following additional academic year.
The status of “part-time student” can also be obtained in further academic years by reapplying for it, extending the duration of studies up to twice the normal duration for first- and second-level courses.
The application for the status of part-time student may not be submitted for the academic year in which the student intends to use services such as international mobility (through the Erasmus programme or otherwise) or part-time collaboration.
A student who submits an application to sit the final examination before the end of the cycle of normal years of the course increased by the year(s) in which he or she qualified as a part-time student shall, prior to the final examination, be required to reimburse the academic contribution fees for which he or she had enjoyed exemption.
3. Loss of qualification as a part-time student
A student who acquires fewer than 12 or more than 42 academic credits during the academic years in which he/she takes on the status of “part-time student” loses this status and is required to pay the academic fees for which he/she had enjoyed facilities, plus penalties and interest for late payment.
A student who requests temporary suspension of studies or applies for withdrawal loses the status of a part-time student and is required to pay the portion of the academic fees for which he or she had enjoyed exemption.
4. Renouncing the status of part-time student
A request to waive the status of “part-time student” may be submitted within the first year of the year in question by sending an e-mail to
iscrizioni.tasse@consmilano.it.
Part-time request form
Dual frequency
As a result of Law no. 33 of 12 April 2022 and Ministerial Decree no. 933 of 2 August 2022, from the academic year 2022/2023, so-called “dual enrolment” is permitted.
Ministerial Decree No. 933 of 2 August 2022 states that students may enrol at the same time:
- a two academic diploma courses bachelor's or master's degree if at least two-thirds of the educational activities differ;
- a an academic diploma course and a postgraduate or master's course, PhD or specialisation course, or a doctorate or master's degree course and a specialisation course;
- a a university course of study and a course of study at AFAM institutions.
In particular, then, Article 4 of Ministerial Decree No. 933 of 2 August 2022 provides that: “In the case of overlapping training activities in two different AFAM study courses, recognition is automatically granted to students, even in derogation of any quantitative limits laid down in the teaching regulations. In the case of partial recognition of the educational activities carried out in a course of study, the competent teaching structure of the other course of study may promote the organisation and facilitate the student's use of supplementary educational activities in order to fully recognise the educational activity. The non-recognition of credits must be adequately justified”.
Simultaneous enrolment in courses of study at the university and at higher institutes of musical studies
Italian language proficiency test
Foreign students who are exempt from the Italian language test during their course admissions must take an Italian language test. Interested students will be contacted by the Teaching Secretariat by email. The test has a cost, payable by the student, of € 50.00.
The test is designed to ascertain the possession of a language competence equal to or higher than level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
In the event of a negative result (or non-participation in the test), the student will be assigned an educational debt to be discharged by attending a compulsory Italian language course organised by the Milan Conservatory (also in agreement with an external school), at the end of which he/she will have to pass a final test scheduled for June of the following year.
Until they have passed the final test, students who have been assigned the Italian language debt will not be able to sit any examinations and will not be able to obtain any qualification (academic career block) in relation to the educational activities envisaged in their study plan. They may, however, take the tests envisaged for the settlement of any other educational debts that may have been assigned to them.
Failure to attend the Italian language debt clearance course, as well as failure to pass the final test, will result in the academic career being blocked: the student will therefore have to attend the Italian language course and pass the final test in the following academic year. However, the possibility of taking only the minimum number of examinations required by the regulations in force (one examination for students enrolled in the first year and two examinations for students enrolled in the years following the first) will be guaranteed for students who need to obtain a renewal of their residence permit.
For anything not specified in this notice, the rules of the Regulations for the allocation of debts and recognition of credits for first and second level academic diploma courses (link), with specific reference to Articles 4, 4a and 4b.
As resolved by the Academic Council (resolution 15 of 25 January 2022) with effect from the entrance examinations for the next academic year 2022/2023, no more “incoming” transfer applications will be accepted.
Therefore, students coming from other Higher Institutes of Music Studies (ISSM) who intend to continue their studies at the Milan Conservatory must register for the admission exam for the first year of the relevant course of study.
If they pass admission they will be matriculated (first enrolment) in the same way as all new students. Subsequently, examinations taken in previous years and recognition of previous credits will be carried out.
