LEVEL I ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

For candidates who do not play: aptitude test

For candidates who play: performance test

  1. Performance of two studies freely chosen from the methods of A. Magnani or X. Léfèvre, or another equivalent. In place of one study, an easy piece with piano accompaniment may be performed.
  2. Playing scales up to three sharps and three flats
  3. Reading an easy passage at first sight

LEVEL II ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

  1. Scales and arpeggios up to 3 alterations, including the chromatic scale
  2. An easy piece of chamber music
  3. Two studies chosen by the committee out of 4 submitted (one for each group):
    • studio from: August Périer “The Beginner Clarinetist” – Friedrich Demnitz “Elementary Studies”
    • From the studio: Aurelio Magnani Clarinet Method “16 Studies” – Xavier Lefèvre Clarinet Method
    • studio: Paul Jeanjean “20 Progressive and Melodic Studies”
    • study: free choice of another author
    • An easy reading passage at first sight

LEVEL III ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

  1. A concert chosen from:
    • Carl Maria von Weber “Concertino” op.26 for clarinet and piano
    • a Concerto by Johann or Karl Stamitz
    • other compositions of equal technical-interpretive level
  2. Scales and Arpeggios by heart
  3. Tied and untied third jumps
  4. Extraction of two studies out of 4 submitted (one from each group):
    • Studio from: Aurelio Magnani Clarinet Method “12 Capricci” – Cyrille Rose 40 Studies
    • from the studio: Hyacinthe Klosé “20 Studies of Character and Mechanism” – Hyacinthe Klosé “20 Characteristic Studies” – August Périer “20 Studies”
    • studio: Paul Jeanjean “20 Progressive and Melodic Studies”
    • studio from: Vincenzo Gambaro “21 Capricci” – Robert Stark “10 Studies” op. 40
  5. Reading at first sight and transporting an easy piece in A and C
  6. Demonstrate the ability to perform easy improvisations
