Learning objectives

Throughout the course of study, students will acquire the following skills, the achievement of which will be assessed and certified by passing the exams and their respective marks:
Adequate piano skills
2. adequate aesthetic and interpretive sensibility in relation to piano literature from the 18th century to the present day, including acquisitions from harpsichord, clavichord, and organ literature.
3. autonomy in study
4. reading skills at first sight
5. self-control in situations of responsibility and emotional tension
6. knowledge of the forms and compositional processes of the repertoires studied
7. knowledge and relative application of memorisation methods

Admission

1. A Bach or polyphonic piece
2. Two studies
3. A Sonata (or Sonata tempo) or Classical Sonatina
4. A piece from the romantic or modern period
5. Reading at first sight
At least one of the tests from number 1 to number 4 must be performed from memory.

The candidate will choose the difficulty level of the programme, in relation to their technical/musical abilities and the period of study they intend to access.

Compulsory items:

  1. Beginner Level: Boris Tchaikovsky from “8 Pieces for Children” (1952) No. 3 March ;
  2. Intermediate Level: Sofia Gubaidulina from “Musical Toys” (1969) no. 8 A bear playing the double bass; ;
  3. Advanced Level: Aaron Copland - “Two Piano Pieces” (1982), No. 2 Proclamation

Admission

INTERMEDIATE PRE-ACADEMIC COURSE:
– Rhythmic and melodic aptitude tests: instant repetition of simple rhythms. Vocal intonation of simple ascending and descending intervals and short melodic sequences
– Drums: performance of an easy study or piece of the candidate's choice containing some irregular groupings.
– Timpani: performance of a study or easy piece of the candidate's choice on 2 timpani.
– Xylophone: Performance of a study or easy piece of the candidate's choice. Performance of 3 major scales and their relative minors with arpeggios of the candidate's choice.
Sight-reading on the drums.

Candidates who present themselves without having prepared the pieces in the programme will only be assessed through aptitude tests.

ADVANCED PRE-ACADEMIC COURSE:
– Rhythmic and melodic attitudinal tests: instant repetition of rhythms containing syncopated parts and irregular groupings. Vocalisation of ascending and descending intervals starting from a given note. – Instant vocal repetition of short melodic sequences.
– Drums: performance of a study or piece chosen by the candidate which contains the double stroke technique and dynamic changes.
– Timpani: performance of a study or piece on 3 timpani of the candidate's choice, with at least one change of tuning.
– Xylophone: Performance of a study or piece of the candidate's choice. Performance of 3 major scales with their relative minors and arpeggios of the committee’s choice.
– Vibraphone: performance of a study or piece of the candidate's choice using one of the 4-mallet techniques.
– Sight-reading on drums and xylophone.
